Chasing Shadows
Photography may not be top-of-mind in winter, too much grey and cold. But there is another way.
Those popular snowscapes don’t always deliver when it’s not cold enough for snow.
Winter opens up the landscape. Through the skeletal trees, devoid of leaf cover that hems in the landscape, blocking views and lowers horizons.
Winter is full of possibilities
Winter makes me look at my surroundings anew. The ambient sounds are louder, the views wider and more much intense. Starting with shadows; long and varied in the low, deep winter sunshine, through the trees, crunching along the footpaths, buildings and structures can play tricks through the mist. Close up or in the landscape, there are lots of opportunities to try something different. Focus on the ground, along the tree line, looking for shapes and shifting light. Have fun too!
